Chocolate and Coffee layer cake

So yesterday I celebrated my birthday, it´s not important what birthday I celebrated (lol) just that I celebrated it and that I had fun ;-)  

Así que ayer celebré mi cumpleaños, no es que fuera importante lo del cumpleaños que celebré (jaja) sólo que lo celebré y que me he divertido;-)




The weird/funny part is that I baked my own cake, I could have bought one but since I bake quite alot I didn´t want to buy a cake that I might not like and since my husband has never baked anything before, I wasn´t going to ask him.. so what other option did I have to bake my own birthday cake.. sad.. but true ;-)

Lo extraño/gracioso es que yo preparé mi propia tarta, podría haber comprado una, pero desde que empecé a hornear no quería comprar una tarta y después no me gustase y ya que mi esposo nunca ha horneado antes, no iba a pedírselo a él .. así que ¿qué otra opción tenía que hacer mi propia tarta de cumpleaños .. triste .. pero cierto;-)



If you like chocolate combined with coffee this cake is for you.. it´s a layer chocolate cake filled with dark chocolate ganache and covered with coffee frosting.. awhile ago, friends of ours gave us Starbucks coffee as a gift so I decided to use some of it to make the frosting.. the result was even better than I thought.. if you like Starbucks coffee as much as I do (and believe me where we are it´s hard to come by..) you´ll love it but please don´t think that you cant use any other coffee, because you can.. I just like Starbucks so I used it but you could use whichever you like..

Si te gusta el chocolate junto con el café esta tarta es para ti.. es una tarta de chocolate llena de ganache de chocolate negro y cubierta con frosting de café ..Hace un tiempo, unos amigos nos dieron café Starbucks como regalo, así que decidí usar algo de lo que quedaba para hacer el frosting .. el resultado fue aún mejor de lo que yo pensé .. si te gusta el café Starbucks tanto como me gusta (y créanme que donde vivimos es difícil de encontrarlo..) te va a encantar, pero por favor no pienses que no puedes usar cualquier otro café, porque es posible. . Simplemente me gusta Starbucks así que lo usé pero se puede usar de la marca que quieras ..)



Recipe:
Versión Español

for the Chocolate Cake:
(enough to make 1 cake in a well greased 20cm cake pan (divide into 2 when cooled)/I made this x 2 to get 4 layers)

Ingredients:
Method:
Sift all your dry ingredients together, while beating your oil, sugar and eggs together.  When well blended, add the vanilla essence and then slowly the dry ingredients followed by the buttermilk.  Dont overmix, just until all the ingredients are well incorporated.  Bake in a 180ºC pre-heated oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.  Leave to cool in the pan and when cooled remove and leave in the fridge for 1 hour before dividing the cake into 2 levels.



for the Chocolate Ganache: 

Ingredients:
Method:
Heat the cream on the stove and just before it starts to boil, remove from heat and add the chocolate and vanilla. Leave for 1 minute and then use a whisk to mix well.  Leave to cool to room temperature and then put it into the freezer to firm up.


for the Coffee (Starbucks) Frosting:
(enough to ice the whole cake of 4 layers)

Ingredients:
Method:
Blend the butter on high speed until light in colour.  Add the sifted icing sugar & salt slowly to the  butter and blend well. Now add the coffee and vanilla slowly until your frosting is
light & fluffy!
